It was over 40 years ago when Joyce Reynolds moved to the US from Jamaica alone with her two young children (1- and 2-year old), full of hope and optimism for the American dream. She had marketing career in Jamaica but had to start over in the US. Soon she found a position at a fast food restaurant in New York, where she was quickly promoted. In 1995, she became a manager for KFC when Jerado joined her and the family. However, when Jerado's desired to be closer to other family members for the children, Joyce did not hesitate to give up her career the second time to move to Connecticut with the family. in 2000, Joyce completed the Certified Nursing Assistant Program at a Community College while being a mom to 3 children, and began to work as charge nurse. 5 years later, she further advanced her career to a registered nurse and the Assistant Director of Nursing at Alexander Manor in Bloomfield, CT.
Established as a highly skilled metal welder and fabricator in Jamaica, Jerado continued his career in the US. After achieving a good reputation in the local industry in the US, he and Joyce decided to start Reynolds Welding and Fabrication LLC in 2005, with part-time help from Joyce who was still working full time as the assistant nursing director. As the business grew and expanded, they realized that they needed Joyce's full attention on the company while Jerado took on bigger projects. So in 2015, Joyce left her position of 10 years and began her new career at Reynolds Welding. She wasted no time and started to reach out to the a networks of community based organizations that help and support minority-owned and women-owned small businesses, with the knowledge learned and support received from the organizations, as well as the diligent work of their own, Reynolds Welding was able to tremendously over the years.
